Over 25 years ago a nautical idea sparked between Naturalmat founders Mark & Peter.

“Both keen sailors, we couldn’t stand the mattresses on boats. Made of cheap, synthetic foam, they retained heat and moisture, making for a hot and uncomfortable night’s sleep.”

We discovered that the solution was to use natural materials. Inherently breathable, natural fibres wick heat and moisture away from the body and create a far healthier, more comfortable and longer lasting mattress. So on the banks of the River Exe, in a corner of the boatyard on Mark’s old table tennis table, production began.

Another lightbulb moment came after the birth of Mark’s first child. If we could make eco-friendly mattresses for boats, why not babies, too? After all, they didn’t deserve to be sleeping on the harmful toxins found in synthetic materials. With this in mind, we started crafting mattresses for babies with the same pure, properly certified organic materials.

And with that, Naturalmat was born.

Today, we deliver mattresses across the world from our solar-powered workshop in Devon to private residences, yachts and hotels, providing the best night's sleep to all the guests of the Six Senses Hotels Resorts and Spas, The Hoxton, and many other sustainability-centred hospitality properties both big and small.
